ReDefine delivers VFX services for HBO’s ‘The Undoing’

Based on the 2014 novel ‘You Should Have Known’ by Jean Hanff Korelitz, ‘The Undoing’ is a new limited series from from writer David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and director Susanne Bier (The Night Manager) for HBO. The story focuses on Nicole Kidman’s Grace Fraser, a successful therapist, her devoted husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant), and their young son who attends an elite private school in New York City. A chasm opens in Grace’s seemingly perfect life: a violent death, a missing spouse and a chain of terrible revelations.

We delivered over 230 shots across 6 episodes for this show, and our contribution involved a wide range of visual effects work, including complex matte paintings of the streets of New York, a variety of CG environment extensions and compositing work.

‘One particular scene followed Nicole Kidman taking a long walk through the New York streets. To maintain continuity between the shots, we replaced entire backgrounds on a few shots with our digital matte paintings. Our artists delivered impressive work which helped the sequence to play seamlessly.’’
