Detective Chinatown 3 breaks box office record with $393M opening

Chinese blockbuster ‘Detective Chinatown 3’ posted the largest opening weekend ever in a single market last weekend, after being delayed for a year by COVID-19. Its earnings of $393 million topped the $356 million earned by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in the U.S. on its opening weekend in 2019. ‘Detective Chinatown 3’ also took the single-day record with $160 million earned on the Friday of its release, topping the $157.4 million earned on its opening day by ‘Endgame’ in the U.S.

ReDefine provided visual effects for some key moments in the show, including the huge globe-trotting shot that sees the camera pull out from Big Ben in London, fly around the world, and pan across the main characters on the Tokyo Tower in Japan, which involved full CG models and environments for both iconic sites.

We are very proud of the achievements of both our technical teams and our talented artists, who came together to deliver some incredible imagery for this massively successful action-comedy buddy movie. Great work team.

ReDefine is definitely a great place to be. I have enjoyed every single day here, the work is truly rewarding. The teams share a great bond and that’s what makes it a great place to work.
